First time at this restaurant. We saw some friends there and they said they had been there several times and that they enjoyed the food. We got the La Carbon plate and a Tostado plate. We were pleased with both dishes. The salsa, while not hot, was still tasty because of the fresh flavor and crunchy chips. Our waitress, Jessica, was pleasant, friendly and helpful. Friendly service and good food.

The negative reviews were unfounded in my opinion. The food was good, the service was spot on and the wait staff made you feel like you were the most important person there. I have tried the Cuban, the quesadillas and the burgers. All were good. Give the place a try.

Oops! Meant to get my review in sooner. My wife and sister had lunch at Ray's on a Friday. Both raved about their meal. My wife had the shrimp tacos and she was really wanting me to try Ray's. We went back later in the evening and sat outside in their porch under the propane heaters. Nice. Not being very hungry we settled for salsa, queso, and a beer. The salsa was tasty, but very runny. We lean to chunkier salsas. A bit of diced onion and cilantro would be nice. The queso was fine and better than we been receiving lately at other popular, local Mexican places. I'll vouch for the friendly and attentive staff. The location is convenient being near exit 15, a Holiday Inn Express, and the Rave. In fact its the only full service restaurant close to the Rave other than fast food and a pizza place across the street. Parking was plentiful, but the lot seems laid out strange. While I live in the University District, many folks who live out west off Col Glenn while find Ray's convenient. We'll be back when the weather warms so we can sit outside. The acoustics inside aren't conducive for a quiet talk due to the building materials, a TV and general restaurant noise.

My husband and I had high hopes for Ray's More Than Mex. Unfortunately, they fell a little flat. Let's start with the menu - it sounds awesome, right? Interesting appetizer, taco, and sandwich combinations. Prices seem fair. The restaurant is clean, and hostesses inviting. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as good as the menu made it sound. The tacos were TINY. The flavors a little bland. We left hungry, which is never a good sign. I think Ray's still has potential. They just need to make some adjustments.

If you are looking for a place that serve Mexican/Tex-Mex Without the spiciness, then this place is for you. Most Mexican restaurants in the area have me sweating at least a little while eating. My uncle and I came here to give it a try, and had to send my food back due to the beans being scorched. I spoke to the Manager to let him know, they did fix it by letting me get another meal without beans. We received great service, so I have no complaint about it. The main complaint is that I just do not think that their spin on the dishes is anything extraordinary.

We stopped by Ray's prior to a movie at The Rave. Due to the location I have to think this will be their main source of customers. I would not have gone had I read these reviews but since we were pressed for time it was a logical choice. I had the 3 taco plate and they were all excellent. From a choice of 5 or 6 options I chose the steak, shrimp and chorizo. The chorizo was especially good. My friend is a vegetarian and they had no vegetarian options. The waiter said that was their Achilles' heel. But he had the kitchen make something up for her that she just loved. Speaking of our waiter, I wish I could recall his name as he was excellent. Very personable and on top of it. The beer was cold and she said the margarita was delicious. I will be back.

We prearranged a holiday party for 45 people and we were assigned ONE waitress. We ordered our food over an hour after we got here. Then, we had to wait while the waitress had to walk around the room and ask everyone what they ordered again to go make the tickets. We finished eating at 7:45 and waited until 8:45 to get our tickets and pay. What kind of restaurant assigns one waitress for 45 people?

The restaurant is bright and clean, the service was impeccable. Unfortunately the food was bland. We went there looking for Mexican cuisine but didn't find any Mexican flavors. The chips and salsa we ordered was very bland and even doctoring it with hot sauce didn't help. There didn't even have refried or black beans as one would expect. The beans they offer are southern style pinto beans cooked with chunks of ham. Pretty much no vegetarian options so I opted for the house fries but they were covered with so much raw garlic they were hard to consume. The French onion soup also was wasn't very flavorful and didn't come with cheese baked on top as one would expect. We sampled the slaws but passed on both as they weren't very good. My son ordered 3 chicken tacos which was chicken inside 3 tiny tortillas, no veggies, cheese or toppings as one would expect. He refused to eat the beans on the side and said the rice was bland, he was still hungry as the portion was incredibly small. As great as the service was we wouldn't consider returning. If good food is what you seek you won't find it here

I was waiting on my boyfriend to get off work from Steve Landers so I stopped in for a quick bite. The hostess acted confused when I asked for a table for one. I had to repeat myself. The waitress was short with me once she realized I wasn't ordering an entree. I ordered the homemade potato chips. They weren't even room temperature and tasted stale even though the menu boasts that they are made fresh daily. I doubt that I will be back to give the rest of the menu a chance.

I can't believe this restaurant is even listed under the "food" on this exit sign off the interstate. I wasn't impressed at the food. I had fish tacos and they were excessively greasy. As was my friends chimichanga. The pork rinds were good. Maybe you can order drinks and eat those and fill up. Will not be returning

this place will be closed in three months, guaranteed. Food was average, restaurant almost completely empty on a Friday night. Location is terrible. Menu is too eclectic. No atmosphere.

Very disappointing. We were hoping we had found a local gem. Not here. Perhaps the crew is new. It appeared that everyone was confused. A lot of staff just walking around without apparent purpose. Horribly slow service. Waitress couldn't answer basic questions about the overpriced entrees. When our order finally arrived the food was cold. We left and will not be back. And, dude in the chef's jacket, get in the kitchen and quit worrying about visiting with your girlfriend! Where's the leadership? Sad track they're on. Hope they can turn it around.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
